Drake confirmed as Venezia investor as rap superstar’s Nike sub-brand becomes Serie A club’s official kit sponsor
Rap superstar Drake has become an investor at Serie A side Venezia and his Nike sub-brand NOCTA will become the club’s official kit sponsor.
Drake has become the latest superstar to take a stake in a football club. The Canadian rapper has invested in Venezia, through the APEX group, in a move that will also see his Nike sub-brand NOCTA replace Kappa as the club’s kit sponsor – as per ESPN.
Apex said in a statement on Instagram: “Global icon Drake has joined Venezia investor group alongside APEX to fund the club ahead of its Serie A season. His Nike sub-brand NOCTA becomes the team’s official kit sponsor, a huge step towards the merging of culture and sports.”
Drake has managed to raise $40 million (€36m) to invest in Venezia, helping save the club from bankruptcy, according to GQ Italia. Venezia have also been boosted by a return to the Italian top flight. The club beat Cremonese in the play-offs to secure a place back in Serie A for the 2024-25 season.
Matte Babel, a spokesperson for Drake, said: “We’re excited to partner with Venezia FC, a team that embodies the rich history and vibrant culture of Venice. It’s the perfect intersection of sport and culture and we’re looking forward to contributing to a franchise that stretches beyond the pitch.”
Venezia brand manager Fabrizia Monteleone added: “One of Venezia FC’s goals is to leverage the global popularity of football and bring international attention to one of the most culturally significant cities in the world. Venezia FC serves as an ambassador for the city of Venice and the club’s relationship with NOCTA will reinforce Venezia FC’s broader mission to celebrate the city’s cultural heritage.”
