Roy Keane admits Andre Onana ‘worry’ as Man Utd legend names two problem positions for Erik ten Hag ahead of new season
Manchester United have strengthened their squad this summer with some key additions but Roy Keane still feels there are two problem positions.
Erik ten Hag has enjoyed a busy summer transfer window at Old Trafford, bringing in Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui in a bid to strengthen his squad. There may even be more additions before the window closes with United targeting a move for PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte. The revamp comes after United enjoyed a difficult Premier League campaign last time out, finishing down in eighth place and managing just 57 goals in 38 games.
Much will be expected from Manchester United after their summer spending spree, but club legend Roy Keane has voiced his concerns about the team ahead of the new Premier League season. The former midfielder thinks there are still two problem positions within the Red Devils team that will prevent Ten Hag’s side from challenging for the title, including the No.1 spot currently occupied by Andre Onana.
Keane said on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet: “It’s always a worry for me about competing and I still worry about the spine of that Manchester United team. For all the nice play they have and good players, I still worry about the goalkeeper and striker. On paper they have a decent squad, but the reality is when they’ve played games, and last year with their record in the league they were so open. If you’re on about competing, I worry about the spine of the team. I fully expect United will do a lot better than last year. They can’t finish eighth again, can they? They can’t be that bad. But we are talking about fourth here.”
Manchester United kick off their Premier League campaign on Friday against Fulham but will be without some key stars due to injury. New signing Yoro has been ruled out for three months after undergoing surgery on a foot issue, while Luke Shaw has suffered another injury setback and will not be available until after September’s international break.
