For Bayern Munich, there is bad news! Although wanting to join Bundesliga opponents, Xabi Alonso suggests Jonathan Tah will remain at Bayer Leverkusen.
Xabi Alonso, the manager of Bayer Leverkusen, has made hints that Jonathan Tah will remain with the team despite Bayern Munich’s interest.
While Tah has been linked with a move to Bayern and has seemingly refused to extend his contract at Leverkusen, Alonso remains hopeful that he will stay at the club. The Germany international has clocked over 350 appearances for the club, with his contract expiring next summer.
Alonso said he is “planning” the season with Tah, but if Tah does end up leaving, the team has been rumored to be interested in signing free agent Mats Hummels. Nonetheless, the Leverkusen manager acknowledges that things are unstable and might easily change.
“I’m planning with Jona because he’s so important to us, both on and off the pitch,” Alonso said to reporters. Right now, that is my concept. However, I’m not ignoring the circumstance. We’ll watch and see. He’s a true professional, totally dedicated. I have nothing to be upset about.
Leverkusen’s final three preseason friendly are against Lens, Arsenal, and Real Betis. They play Stuttgart in the DFL-Supercup after that.
